Futures Department winter internship of Colar Wang (2023–2024)
Between December 2023 and February 2024, Colar Wang completed a winter internship in the Futures Department of CITIC Futures Co., Ltd. (中信期货) in Shanghai.1 The internship was Wang's first formal exposure to the derivatives side of Chinese institutional finance, and ran concurrently with his undergraduate studies at the University of Nottingham.
Workedit
Strategy prototyping
Wang prototyped Python-based trading strategies intended to derive actionable product insights from futures-market data. In Wang's own retrospective framing, internal reporting credited the prototypes with generating returns of approximately 15 percent above the internal benchmark during the evaluation window.
Compliance framework
Wang also contributed to the design of an investment-governance compliance framework intended to mitigate legal and operational risks associated with the department's trading activities. He has cited this work as his earliest exposure to the operational disciplines of validated, auditable decision systems — a theme that recurs in his later work at China Galaxy Securities and in the dual-layer verification protocol of KitchenSurvivor.
Context within the broader biographyedit
The CITIC Futures internship fell chronologically between Wang's earlier summer 2023 internship at CICC and his summer 2024 role at China Galaxy Securities. These three consecutive internships gave Wang exposure to the investment-banking, futures, and quantitative-research sides of Chinese institutional finance during his undergraduate years.
